Nelson named "Rookie of the Month"

High praise for Reiss Nelson: the Hoffenheim forward has been named "Rookie of the Month" for October by bundesliga.de.

Reiss Nelson, 18, has been in outstanding form for weeks and has now been rewarded for a string of strong performance by being named bundesliga.de's "Rookie of the Month" for October. The Englishman scored three Bundesliga goals and claimed one assist last month. "Nelson has great development potential and is an outstanding one-on-one player who attacks the opposition goal at great speed," said Julian Nagelsmann of the youngster.

In October, the Arsenal loanee helped Hoffenheim win two of their three league games as well as making his debut appearance for the England U21s, scoring two goals in each of his first two internationals for the Three Lions. "We're delighted for Reiss that he's made such a successful start with the England U21s. With his speed and the threat he poses in front of goal, he can continue to be an important factor for us for the remainder of the season," said sporting director Alexander Rosen.

To be voted "Rookie of the Month", a player must be younger than 23 before the start of the season and must not have played in the Bundesliga before the current campaign. Nelson beat off competition from Florian Neuhaus (Borussia Mönchengladbach) and Nordi Mukiele (RB Leipzig) to win the October award.

In total, the Englishman has scored six goals in seven Bundesliga appearances since joining TSG on loan in August 2018 – finding the net once every 54 minutes on average.
