TSG win friendly against Sturm Graz

Hoffenheim were successful in their final friendly in preparation for the Bayer Leverkusen game at the weekend which kicks off the second half of the season, recording a 3-1 win against Strum Graz. Jonathan Schmid, Sebastian Rudy and Jiloan Hamad scored for TSG against the fourth-placed Austrian Bundesliga side.

Line-up and formation:

Huub Stevens had to make do without Kevin Volland, Niklas Süle, Pirmin Schwegler, Eugen Polanski and Tarik Elyounoussi for the friendly against Sturm Graz due to injury or illness. Oliver Baumann started in goal behind a back four of Fabian Schär, Ermin Bikackic, Jin-Su Kim and Pavel Kaderabek. In central defence midfield stood Sebastian Rudy and Tobias Strobl. Up front, Stevens played Jonathan Schmid, Eduardo Vargas, Mark Uth and Jiloan Hamad, who had just returned after a long time injured on the sidelines.

TSG took on a 4-3-2-1 formation. During the game, Steven Zuber, Kevin Kuranyi, Philipp Ochs and Jeremy Toljan were brought on as substitutes, the latter coming on for Strobl as "a precautionary measure".

Match reaction:

Huub Stevens: "The first half was good, especially our build-up play. We didn’t make many mistakes and the boys were calm on the ball. That’s important. We still have things to do in the coming week."

Sebastian Rudy: "It was a good performance from us. We were tidy in defence and worked well up front. We can now work with one week to go until the season stars up again."
