Valiant TSG beaten in Wolfsburg

The return of the Bundesliga today saw TSG Hoffenheim suffer their fifth defeat this season. Despite putting in a strong performance, manager Markus Gisdol’s side were beaten 4-2 away at VfL Wolfsburg. After going 2-0 down inside the first five minutes to goals from Max Kruse and Bas Dost, TSG fought their way back into the game with goals from Jeremy Toljan and later Jonathan Schmid. But there was no stopping Kruse in the form he was in today; the Germany international restored the hosts’ lead, before completing his hat-trick and dashing TSG’s hopes of a point.

Tactics and line-up:

Markus Gisdol made only one change to the side to face Wolfsburg: Tobias Strobl made the starting XI in place of the injured captain Pirmin Schwegler, with Eugen Polanski wearing the armband. Aside from this, Gisdol went with the same players who started before the international break against VfB Stuttgart.

Strobl lined up along side Polanski in defensive midfield. Eduardo Vargas – having only returned from international duty on Thursday evening – started up front alongside Kevin Volland.
After Jin-Su Kim was brought on in the first half, Jeremy Toljan switched from left back to right back.

Number of the match: 1

Jeremy Toljan scored the first Bundesliga goal of his career to make it 2-1 and start a comeback for TSG.
