International round-up: Brazil too strong for USA

A number of TSG 1899 Hoffenheim players were involved for their national teams yesterday. But it was a tough night of results for them as only Germany celebrated a win, with Bosnia-Herzegovina, USA and Switzerland all on the end of defeats.

USA 1-4 Brazil

Spirits were high in the USA camp after their 5-1 drubbing of Scotland in Florida last week, but the mighty Brazil proved a little too much for Jürgen Klinsmann's men. In front of a crowd of 70,000 in Washington DC, goals from Neymar, Thiago Silva, Marcelo and Alexandre Pato gave the five-time World Cup winners a comfortable victory. Herculez Gomez scored the reply for USA after he was set up by TSG winger Fabian Johnson. Daniel Williams was an unused substitute.

Upcoming USA games:

Canada vs. USA (friendly, Monday June 4th)

USA vs. Antigua & Barbuda (WC qualifier, Saturday, June 9th)

Guatemala vs. USA (WC qualifier, Wednesday, June 13th)

Mexico 2-1 Bosnia-Herzegovina

Sejad Salihovic could not prevent Bosnia-Herzegovina falling to a second friendly defeat in the space of five days as they were beaten 2-1 by Mexico in Chicago. All three goalscorers were from English clubs: Giovani dos Santos of Tottenham Hotspur gave Mexico the lead before Manchester City's Edin Dzeko equalised for the Bosnians. And the game was deadlocked until the final minute, until Javier Hernandez of Manchester United struck the winner.

Germany 2-0 Israel

Joachim Löw's Germany team put the disappointment of last week's 5-3 loss to Switzerland behind them as they coasted to a 2-0 win over Israel in Leipzig. Mario Gomez and André Schürrle were on the scoresheet for the Germans, while soon-to-be TSG goalkeeper Tim Wiese was an unused substitute.

Switzerland 0-1 Romania

Just four days after their impressive 5-3 routing of Germany, Ottmar Hitzfeld's Switzerland team were brought back down to earth after suffering a surprise home defeat to Romania, with Gheorghe Grozav scoring the winning goal. Eren Derdiyok, due to join the club from Bayer 04 Leverkusen at the start of next season, played the entire 90 minutes but couldn't repeat the display he turned in against Germany when he scored a hat-trick.

Isaac Vorsah and Stephan Schröck are both in action this weekend for Ghana and the Philippines respectively. Vorsah and his teammates face two World Cup qualifiers, first at home to Lesotho and then away to 2012 African Cup of Nations Zambia (Saturday, June 9th). Schröck will travel to Kuala Lumpur as his team takes on Malaysia, with two further home games against Indonesia (Tuesday, June 5th) and China (Tuesday, June 12th).
