Something for the ears

TSG Hoffenheim are launching their own podcast - from Monday (29 April), you can listen to exciting conversations, interesting facts and fascinating insights from your favourite club several times a month. The first guest is a TSG legend. SPIELFELD answers the most important questions about "Ein Dorf ist die Welt" (A village is the world).

Why are TSG making a podcast?

"Ein Dorf ist die Welt" is intended to take fans and all interested listeners deeper into the world of TSG, explain connections, initiate discussions and bring to light the unknown and the forgotten. "It's an appealing audio offering that is part of a balanced communications mix and is therefore an overdue addition to our wide range of publications, from digital channels, to TSG.TV and the club magazine SPIELFELD. We won't be making the podcast with rose-coloured glasses, we want to regularly deliver exciting content that doesn't dodge controversial topics and that goes beyond the TSG horizon," says TSG communications director Christian Frommert.

What is a podcast?

Podcasts are a form of audio media that can be subscribed to and accessed on the Internet. The term is a portmanteau word consisting of the abbreviation for "play on demand" and the abbreviation for "broadcast". These can be listened to via corresponding apps, and all popular music streaming providers also offer podcast listening.

How many people listen to podcasts?

The figures on the listenership of podcasts vary depending on the study. According to the Online Audio Monitor, around 20.8 million people in Germany listened to podcasts at least occasionally in 2023. The medium is popular with both men and women; in the study, 30.8% of men said they listened to podcasts, compared to 28.2% of women. Around 505 million people worldwide regularly listen to podcasts. News formats, scientific topics and programmes on business and politics are particularly popular. But there are also numerous sports podcasts - and they have a large audience.

What technology is required?

Nowadays, recording podcasts is very easy. All you need is a microphone and a suitable sound recording programme for your PC. If you want to edit the recording, you will need an editing programme. There are free programmes that are perfectly adequate for this: On the Mac, the app Garageband is popular for this, Windows users like to use Soundation Studio. To make the podcast available to all listeners, you need web storage space. The recording is then automatically made available to all common platforms via the hosting tool Podigee.

Do you need a recording studio?

No, a closed room without any sources of noise is perfectly adequate for recording a podcast. The premiere episode was recorded in the SPIELFELD editorial offices, and the recording location of the TSG podcast will always depend on the person being interviewed.

Who is the guest in the first episode?

In the first episode of the TSG podcast, a true Hoffenheim icon speaks: Andreas Beck played a total of 237 competitive matches for TSG from 2008 to 2015. During his time in the Kraichgau, he became a Germany international and captained the club with a brief interruption from 2010 to 2015.

How frequently will new podcasts appear?

The TSG podcast "Ein Dorf ist die Welt" will appear several times a month. Once a month, there will be a major interview episode with a prominent guest, as well as shorter talks, sound bites from the club and updates as part of the podcast programme.

Who will host "Ein Dorf ist die Welt?"

Konstantin Krüger will host the first episode. The 43-year-old works as head of media management at TSG and previously hosted the "Eiskalt auf den Punkt" podcast as head of communications for the German Ice Hockey League DEL. It is planned that other TSG employees will also carry out interviews.
