Grillitsch: "In the end, it's a deserved defeat"

Here’s what the players and coaches had to say after TSG Hoffenheim's 3-1 defeat at Eintracht Frankfurt:

Florian Grillitsch: "It was a crazy game. We didn't start well but got a goal from a set-piece situation. Even before the red card, it was not a good performance by us. After the red card, we actually got better, but when you are a man down, it's hard. We defended too badly today. We were waiting for our moments on the counter-attack, which we could have done a little better with, but in the end, it is a deserved defeat."

Oliver Baumann: "It was difficult after the red card. We had some good chances on the counter, but we could have used them better. It could have been ten against ten. It was unfortunate for us. It was definitely a foul that warranted a booking. He was then subbed off straight away, which confirmed that in a way. Nevertheless, we are the ones to blame. We didn't defend well. We want to give the fans a derby victory next week and strengthen our position in the table."

Andrej Kramarić: "It was a tough game. We were playing with a man less after just 20 minutes. In the end, we lost 3-1 and we actually probably have to be satisfied with that. It was actually a good start with the early goal. Frankfurt looked very dangerous all game. We were too passive. The second goal was very unlucky."

Pellegrino Matarazzo: "I'm very unhappy with how we started the game, even though we took the lead. We did not defend well and were not compact. The red card also came as a result of our defensive game. After the red card, we defended better. A possible second yellow and a red card for the opposition was also a sticking point, and the goal just after half time really hurt us. In the end, however, we didn't do enough and it was a deserved defeat."

Dino Toppmöller (Eintracht Frankfurt head coach): "We played well from the first whistle. Of course, it was unfortunate that we fell behind, but the team responded well. We had a very good week in training, and the boys did well on the pitch. We knew that today we were up against a team that are also fighting to get into Europe. For our birthday, we gave ourselves and the fans a victory."
