Umut Tohumcu receives Fritz Walter medal

A special honour for TSG young player Umut Tohumcu: the 19-year-old has been awarded the Fritz Walter bronze medal for the 2004 year group by the German Football Association (DFB). The midfielder is therefore one of the greatest German talents in his year group. Youssoufa Moukoko of Borussia Dortmund won gold, while Mainz's Brajan Gruda took silver.

Umut Tohumcu has been wearing a TSG Hoffenheim shirt since 2017, having joined the club at the age of 12. The Offenburg native made his Bundesliga debut in May 2022 and has been a permanent member of the first-team squad since January 2023. Tohumcu, 19, has made 10 competitive appearances for TSG Hoffenheim.

"Umut is a prime example of TSG's approach of identifying talent and promoting it to the professional squad step-by-step via our academy. This approach is a fundamental element of our DNA. We're delighted for and with him and are sure that we will have a lot of fun with him in the future," said Head of Professional Football Pirmin Schwegler of the award.

Tohumcu is the sixth male TSG player to receive the award. The winners before him were Manuel Gulde (2008, U17s, Gold), Marco Terrazzino (2009, U18s, Gold), Kevin Akpoguma (2013, U18s, Gold), Benjamin Gimber (2014, U17s, Gold) and Philipp Ochs (2016, U19s, Silver).

In addition, female players Mara Alber (2022, U17s, Silver), Mathilde Janzen (2022, U17s, Bronze) Jule Brand (2021, U19s, Gold) and Vanessa Diehm (2021, U17s, Silver) have been recognised for their achievements at junior level.
