Kerem Demirbay extends contract at TSG

Kerem Demirbay has extended his contract at TSG Hoffenheim by an extra year. The 24-year-old attacking midfielder now has a deal with the Bundesliga club until 30th June 2022.

For Alexander Rosen, the contract extension is “a clear signal both internally and externally. It emphasises our desire to continue the path we’re on which has borne fruit in recent years.” The sporting director depicted Demirbay’s development since his move in summer 2016 as “exceptional from all angles”.

Under the tutelage of Julian Nagelsmann and his coaching staff, Demirbay has gone from strength to strength. Initially a loanee in the second tier, he’s now a key component in a side which qualified for the Champions League last season. The Herten born player also wrote TSG history as his goal on 21st April 2017 in extra time not only earned TSG a draw against 1. FC Köln but confirmed their place at Europe’s top table. His exceptional performances also translated onto the international stage as he was part of the Germany national team set-up in their 2017 Confederations Cup victory.

“I’m happy to continue to be a part of the development at the club which has been taking place in the past few years. There’s something special happening here and I want to be a part of it. I’m convinced that a lot is still possible for us,” said Kerem Demirbay about his contract extension. “The past few weeks made me even surer of my decision. During my spell on the sidelines, I received a phenomenal amount of support from the club. That’s invaluable and something I’ve received ever since I moved here,” added Demirbay.

Kerem Demirbay joined TSG in 2016 from Hamburger SV. Kerem was loaned out to two second division sides (1. FC Kaiserslautern, Fortuna Düsseldorf) before cementing his place in TSG’s Bundesliga side. To this point, Demirbay has made 46 Bundesliga appearance (43 of which for TSG) and has scored eight goals in Germany’s first division. The 24-year-old has also got two caps for Germany, scoring one goal.
