Ochs completes loan move to VfL Bochum

TSG Hoffenheim have loaned out Philipp Ochs to second tier side VfL Bochum until 30th June 2018. The 20-year-old forward has worn the TSG colours since 2009, and is currently under contract in Kraichgau until 30th June 2019.

Several clubs had taken an interest in the 2014 German youth champion. The deciding factor in his choice to move to VfL Bochum, however, was the fact that he has prior experience working with their coach, Jens Rasiejewski, who was Ochs’ youth coach. “Jens really wanted to work with Philipp again. It gave us the confidence that he would be in the right hands to continue his development until he returns to us in June,” says Alexander Rosen. TSG’s director of football hopes that this move will enable him to get more game time and points out that “we’ve seen good results when we followed this formula in the past - most recently in the case of Kevin Akpoguma.”

Ochs has been signed to a professional contract at TSG since the 2015/2016 season. Since then, he has appeared in 19 Bundesliga games, two DFB-Pokal fixtures as well as five Europa League ties. He has scored one goal in that time.

Ochs arrived at TSG Hoffenheim from his hometown club Viktoria Wertheim when he was in the U13s and immediately stood out thanks to his ability to score goals. He netted 22 goals in the U17s and a further 21 in the U19s. He has made appearances for all age groups of the German Football Association (DFB). Last October, he marked his U21 debut with a two goal performance in Germany’s 6-1 victory over Azerbaijan.
