Markus Gisdol: “Spoilt for choice”

Markus Gisdol has a lot of respect for TSG's next opponents. His side will visit FC Augsburg this coming Saturday (November 23rd, 15:30 CET), with around 700 Hoffenheim fans expected to make the journey.

The TSG boss feels that there has been a maturing process taking place at FCA. “Augsburg already did a lot of developing during the second half of last season and they are continuing to do so,” said Gisdol at his pre-match press conference on Thursday afternoon.

He feels the most crucial thing is that FCA continue to pick up points. “They are deservedly not down at the bottom, where a lot of people thought they would be ahead of the campaign,” explained the Hoffenheim manager. “The team like to be underestimated and always give their all. They bring good technical ability to the table as well.” When asked about the significance behind the last meeting between the two sides in February, Gisdol said: “What happened in the past doesn't play a role.”

Personnel situation has improved

Recently injured players like Kevin Volland, David Abraham, Sebastian Rudy and Fabian Johnson have all taken part in team training. Sejad Salihovic, who came back from international duty with a slight knock, is also expected to be available. “We have found ourselves a good left back. Sali has played his way into that position,” explained Gisdol.

However, the manager left his options open for who will take up the left-hand side in attack: We have a lot of possibilities in that role and are almost spoilt for choice,” said the boss, who will have to choose between Fabian Johnson, Tarik Elyounoussi and Kai Herdling.

The Kraichgau side made the most of the international break. There were fewer players than usual on international duty. As a result, training was much more effective and plenty of tactics have been discussed. “It's been a good two weeks for us,” continued Gisdol at his press conference. It will certainly be interesting to see what match plan and line-up the manager has in mind for Augsburg on Saturday. Three points would definitely turn two good weeks into two great weeks.
