Goalless draw in Mainz - unbeaten record still intact

The fatigue was showing in both Markus Gisdol and Kasper Hjulmand's teams in the Coface Arena on Friday night. In lacklustre performances from TSG 1899 Hoffenheim and 1. FSV Mainz 05, both teams still managed to maintain their unbeaten records this season in an uninspiring 0-0 draw.

Tactics and line-up:

There were two changes Markus Gisdol's team that drew 3-3 against SC Freiburg in the thrilling Baden Derby on Tuesday night. Anthony Modeste came in for Adam Szalai up front, while Pirmin Schwegler took Vestergaard's position in holding midfield.

Hoffenheim started the match in a 4-2-3-1 formation, but didn't really stick to it throughout the game. The hard-fought battle against SCF on Tuesday looked to have taken its toll on Gisdol's side as they laboured their way to the final whistle to claim a point in Mainz.

Highlights:

9th minute: Early chance for Hoffenheim. Anthony Modeste is in a one-on-one with Mainz goalkeeper Loris Karius, but the FSV keeper is able to save the ex-Blackburn striker's attempt. A good start for TSG in the Coface Arena.

19th minute: First chance for the hosts. Mainz left back Diaz takes a shot from 20 years, but it's fired straight at Baumann.

25th minute: Second chance for Modeste. The Frenchman finds himself in yet another one-on-one with Karius, but the 05ers' goalkeeper is able to make a comfortable save.

33rd minute: Another chance for TSG! Firmino hits a right-footed strike, which looks on track to find the bottom corner, but Karius gets down well to keep the Brazilian at bay.

36th minute: A good attack from the home team. Sami Allagui slips the ball to Jonas Hofmann who finds Filip Djuricic in the centre. The Serbia international tries to chip the ball over Baumann's head, but the TSG no.1 is well positioned and bats the cheeky attempt to safety.

53rd minute: First chance of the second half falls to the hosts. Hofmann breaks into the box and fires a shot on goal, but his attempt can only get FSV a corner.

60th minute: Woodwork! Rudy's free kick finds Süle, who nods it across goal the face off goal to Firmino, but the Brazilian's header hits the post.

Moment of the match: Djuricic vs. Baumann

Mainz 05 didn't have many chances on the night, with Oliver Baumann not having much to do in goal. In one of the rare attacks from the 05ers, it was Hoffenheim's goalkeeper who came out on top. After a Mainz counterattack in the 36th minute, Baumann managed to claw Filip Djuricic's chipped shot away with the tips of his fingers.

Number of the game: 6

We're six matchdays into the season and TSG are six games unbeaten. The draw against Mainz, who are level on points and goal difference, was the fourth of the season. Hoffenheim have left the pitch as winners twice.
