Schalke make Obasi loan permanent

Chinedu Obasi will join FC Schalke 04 on a permanent deal at the end of the season. The Nigerian forward, who was loaned to the Gelsenkirchen outfit from TSG 1899 Hoffenheim in January, has agreed to a three-year contract at Schalke, starting from July 1st 2012.

Hoffenheim manager Markus Babbel made the following statement regarding the transfer: “I'm not surprised that Schalke have decided to make his transfer permanent, and I had the impression that Obasi wouldn't be returning to us in the summer. So it doesn't present too much of an interruption to our pre-season plans.”

Obasi joined Hoffenheim in the summer of 2007 from Norwegian club SFK Lyn Oslo, when TSG were still in the 2. Bundesliga. In total, the 25-year-old has made over 100 appearances for 1899, scoring 27 games.
