Amiri: "It's simply not enough"

Here is what the players and both coaches had to say after TSG Hoffenheim drew 1-1 (1-0) against Fortuna Düsseldorf.

Nadiem Amiri: "That simply wasn't enough for our standards. We're certainly superior in terms of footballing talent, but Düsseldorf fight and throw themselves into every challenge. In that sense they were simply better than us. When we perform like that, we shouldn't be looking above us but should instead first work on the normal things such as ensuring we have the right mentality. From a personal viewpoint, I was delighted to be starting a game after such a long time."

Oliver Baumann: "We're all completely dissatisfied. We feel that was our worst match of the season. In the second period we simply didn't win enough tackles and didn't apply nearly enough pressure. This game has to show us how important it is to go into the challenges and to deliver a cohesive team performance. We won't achieve our objectives playing like that."

Julian Nagelsmann: "The result is absolutely fair and is even slightly fortuitous for us. Düsseldorf had the better chances. They defended high at times and deep at others. It was very difficult to get into the game. We barely had any kind of presence in the second half. Going forward too, we weren't able to make an impact and didn't show enough of the tactics we train. We performed very, very badly."

Friedhelm Funkel (Fortuna Düsseldorf coach): "I'm obviously totally satisfied with my team's performance. Especially after the deserved defeat against Leipzig. We pulled together and wanted to do better. We defended better and at some stages pressed very early. I think that the result is absolutely fair. We played with great courage from the beginning. It's clear that you cannot always withstand the pressure that TSG apply. They have a very good team."
