TSG announce record figures

The most successful football season in the history of the club, which culminated in a third-place finish and direct qualification for the UEFA Champions League, has been record-breaking for TSG 1899 Hoffenheim Fußball-Spielbetriebs GmbH in financial terms too. In the 2017/18 financial year ending 30 June, the company increased its revenue to €163 million – a 47 percent jump from the previous year. The operating result rose from a million to above €28 million.

"We're extremely satisfied with both the sporting and economic development of the past few years," said Managing Director Frank Briel, who is delighted with "another outstanding financial result to crown off the most successful sporting season in our club's history. For the third year in a row, we've succeeded in surpassing the €100 million mark in terms of turnover and used the profits generated to further strengthen and develop the club."

For the 43-year-old executive, what is "remarkable is that we again managed to achieve turnover growth in all categories". For Briel, the strong economic and sporting performance is the product of a joint effort. "Without exception, the club has registered enormous growth on all levels. This is predominantly down to the commitment of the employees, who are driven by high levels of motivation and immense ambition," said Briel. Only thanks to this willingness is it possible for a small club like TSG Hoffenheim "to break down barriers and to take their place alongside the giants of the league. Our innovative and courageous approach has paid off in the truest sense of the word," declared Briel, who is sure that "this successful work will motivate us to continue down the path we've taken in order to establish TSG as an ambitious and long-lasting member of the Bundesliga".

In addition to TSG Hoffenheim's first international appearances (UEFA Champions League play-off round against Liverpool as well as participation in the group stages of the Europa League), the increased income from media and TV rights is predominantly responsible for the outstanding turnover growth. Another important contribution to the record balance sheet was made by extraordinarily high income from transfers. The transfers of the players Niklas Süle and Sandro Wagner, who were both sold to Bayern Munich, Fabian Schär (Deportivo de La Coruña), Marco Terrazzino (SC Freiburg) and Jeremy Toljan (Borussia Dortmund) resulted in a turnover increase of 44 percent to €47 million. Another key contributor is revenue from sponsoring, advertising, tickets and hospitality.
