"Leipzig were deserved winners"

Here we bring you the reactions from the players and both coaches after TSG Hoffenheim were beaten 2-0 by RB Leipzig in the DFB Cup.

Nico Schulz: "They got a goal soon after half-time. If there's one team who are difficult to play against when they're ahead, then it's RB. They countered very well. We knew they would, but it's still difficult to defend against. We lost possession too easily going forward. Then things happened very quickly and we ultimately didn't defend the attacks well. It wasn't our best performance."

Gregor Kobel: "We gave Timo Werner a bit too much space for the opening goal, we should've been more compact. We actually defended well against him. It's obviously an enormous disappointment to have conceded two goals, but that's football."

Kerem Demirbay: "We didn't deal with it well when Timo Werner came off the bench. He has a good spatial awareness and often finds the gaps. We could've defended that better. For the opening goal, it also seems as if we were a bit unlucky. But we needed to make better use of our chances in the first period. In all honesty, RB Leipzig were deserved winners."

Kevin Vogt: "It's relatively simple to analyse. We didn't show enough presence in the challenges. And our reverse gear was pretty much non-existent. Then things get difficult against a team like RB Leipzig. We didn't get close enough to the opponents for both goals. It's difficult when we defend so poorly."

Julian Nagelsmann: "The first half was a strange game. Both teams played it safe and didn't have any major opportunities. We didn't perform in the first 20 minutes of the second period. We failed to win simple challenges in the midfield on two occasions, which gave rise to space for them to counter. We still had enough time to pull a goal back, but we didn't manage it. We completely deserved to be eliminated. We were slightly tired today and there was hardly any power in our performance."

Ralf Rangnick (RB coach): "It was a game of two halves. The first half was a highly tactical affair. Augustin's chance aside, it wasn't particularly entertaining for the spectators. But the way that we played in the second half was the best football we've played this season. It was a very focused and passionate performance from us."
