Ishak Belfodil becomes TSG’s second signing

TSG Hoffenheim have completed the signing of Ishak Belfodil. The Algeria international joins from Belgian top-flight side Standard Liege off the back of a loan spell at fellow Bundesliga club SV Werder Bremen. The 26-year-old forward has agreed a contract until 30th June 2022.

“Ishak’s ability to play a variety of attacking roles makes him a valuable asset for our game,” said Alexander Rosen. “He can play up front, off the front man or even in a wider role, so he’s just the kind of player we were after. He is a goal threat, is strong both technically and physically, and isn’t shy of pace either. He is also dangerous in the air and adds real quality to our squad,” added the director of football.

Belfoldil, who completed his medical in Heidelberg and Zuzenhausen earlier on Tuesday, says he can’t wait for his new challenge at TSG. “I’m very happy to have the chance to develop myself further at this ambitious club and will do all I can to play my part in helping them achieve more success,” said the Algerian, who also speaks an array of languages.

Ishak Belfodil made 29 competitive appearances for Werder Bremen this past season, scoring six goals. He featured 40 times for Standard Liege, finding the net 17 times. The 1.91-metre-tall attacker also has 91 Serie A games under his belt, having played for Parma, Inter Milan and Bologna. He played for France at youth level, scoring five times in 24 games, whereas he has represented Algeria at senior level, winning 15 caps and scoring two goals in the process.
