U17s pass first acid test in Oberstaufen

The U17s used their almost week-long training camp in Oberstaufen/Oberallgäu to prepare themselves for the 2018/19 Bundesliga season, which kicks off in three weeks. "We've trained an awful lot and the lads had sufficient time to get to know each other and the coaching staff," said head coach Danny Galm.

Aside from Dejan Galjen and Michael Gelt, who are both undergoing rehabilitation, a full complement of players took part in the training camp. The injured Gelt was replaced by U16 shot-stopper Jan-Luca Dietz while Mamin Sanyang, who cannot yet take part in team training, accompanied the squad to Southern Bavaria, where he spent time snapping shots for the homepage. If the images in the gallery are anything to go by, the forward is just as comfortable with a camera in his hand as he is with a ball at his feet.

The TSG contingent stayed at the Hotel Evviva!, which is owned by former Germany international Karl-Heinz Riedle, and trained in optimal conditions at the adjacent sports complex. "We started out with a casual run and then we used the following training sessions to go over lots of tactical and technical information," explained Galm, who put the players through their paces twice a day in addition to their video analysis work.

As well as the new signings Tobias Riemer, Maximilian Beier, Melayro Bogarde, Max Schmitten and Marvin Weiß, the new members of the coaching staff − video analyst Philipp Lussi, physiotherapists Martin Beer and Max Plachel, plus sports psychologist Katharina Söhnlein − all introduced themselves during a presentation at a team event.

To round off their stay in Oberstaufen, the youngsters went on a canyoning excursion that saw them make a jump from eight metres in the air and complete an 18-metre slide into a body of water below. An acid test that everyone involved mastered with gusto. "The lads made a very strong effort but we still have some areas we need to work on," concluded Galm.
