Nagelsmann: "Wolfsburg have developed well"

Julian Nagelsmann spoke at the press conference prior to the Bundesliga match against VfL Wolfsburg (Saturday at 15:30 CET, Live Ticker on achtzehn99.de) about the personnel situation, a full week of training and the opposition.

Julian Nagelsmann on…

…VfL Wolfsburg: "They're a team that are developing well and have become more versatile. They play various formations and can really cause opposing teams problems. We could put some distance between us with a win, so with that in mind it would be advisable to do so."

…this week in training: "I felt like a coach for the first time in a while. For me, the real work we do happens on the training ground, so it would be nice to be able to have another full week of training from time to time. There was no specific focus for us this week, instead we worked on different things. If nothing out of the ordinary happens on St. Nicholas Day, I'll be very satisfied with this week of training."

…the personnel situation: "Benjamin Hübner's looking really good in training. Once we play him in the Bundesliga again, we'll see how he deals with it. It's entirely possible that he could play a few times before Christmas. Havard Nordtveit is still injured and isn't available yet. Kevin Akpoguma is a doubt for Saturday. Dennis Geiger will go to the U23s again to get some minutes under his belt."

…the winter break: "We're starting our mid-season preparations on 6 January. The lads have 13 days off and will be given an individual training programme. We don't currently have plans to go to a training camp, though there'll be some last-minute options if the weather isn't good."

The social media fan question of the week:

What's your take on Reiss Nelson's development? Is he a candidate for the starting XI?

"Reiss is certainly an option for the weekend. He's a talented player. Obviously he still has room for development in terms of his defensive work. That's why he's frequently only featured from the bench. He has the quality to decide games. He needs to show this quality over 90 minutes. But he'll get there and continue to develop."

The opposition's form:

Wolfsburg sit in eighth place with 18 points after 13 rounds of matches. Coach Bruno Labbadia's charges have been on a good run of form recently, picking up victories over RB Leipzig (1-0) and Eintracht Frankfurt (2-1).

Head-to-head record:

Hoffenheim have only managed to win six of the previous 20 meetings between the two teams in the Bundesliga. Wolfsburg have claimed victory nine times, while there have been six draws. TSG's record at the Volkswagen Arena has room for improvement: The Sinsheim club have only won one of their 10 previous trips to the Wolfsburg stadium (D3 L6).
