TSG sign Nico Schulz

TSG Hoffenheim have made a further addition to their squad for the 2017/18 season as Nico Schulz joins the club from league rivals VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach. The 24-year-old has signed a deal that will last until June 2020.

For Alexander Rosen, Nico Schulz has “exactly the profile that we have been looking for to give our squad more versatility.” The TSG director of football views Schulz as “a great alternative on the left-hand side since he can play both as a full-back and a forward.” Schulz is one of the quickest players in the league and “suits our squad excellently as a left-footer with pace,” said Rosen.

Borussia Mönchengladbach signed the young talent from Hertha BSC in the summer of 2015, where he had been as a youth player. Schulz also came through the DFB youth teams and made 14 appearances for the U21 side, scoring twice.

It took him a while to find his way at Mönchengladbach due to a long-term injury. “That went anything but well for me,” said Schulz looking back. He now firmly wants to “finally put that period behind me. I feel really fit and was finally able to showcase my strengths at the end of last season. I am ready and am really excited to prove myself at this fantastic club,” said Nico Schulz, who has made 65 Bundesliga appearances and played 41 times in the 2. Bundesliga. He has also made three Champions League appearances.
