TSG sign Lukas Rupp

TSG have strengthened their ranks with the signing of Lukas Rupp. The 25-year-old midfielder joins from recently relegated VfB Stuttgart and signs a deal lasting until 30th June 2020.

"In signing Lukas Rupp, we have continued to push ahead with our squad building," said Alexander Rosen. Rupp is a "player, who ticks the box for us in terms of recruiting a flexible and versatile midfielder, who can be relied upon to fulfill his defensive duties as well as adding impetus to our attack," said TSG 1899 Hoffenheim’s director of first team football. The Heidelberg-born player had a hand in 11 goals last season (5 goals + 6 assists) and was also one of the top players in terms of ground covered in the Bundesliga. Manager Julian Nagelsmann is delighted to have secured the services of a "technically gifted, agile and tactically intelligent midfielder."

Lukas Rupp is looking forward to the new footballing challenge ahead and "that I can once again return to my hometown." He is also convinced "that I have accumulated invaluable experience in the past years and that with my qualities, I will be able to significantly contribute to stabilising TSG’s position in the league."

Lukas Rupp started out at TSG Weinheim. From there he moved to the youth set-up at Karlsruher SC and not only made the step up into the Germany U20s (seven caps), but also into professional football. Rupp has made 94 Bundesliga appearances to date - 34 for Borussia Mönchengladbach, 31 for SC Paderborn as well as 29 for VfB Stuttgart. He has netted nine goals.
