Opening draw against RB Leipzig

TSG Hoffenheim had to settle for a draw in their first match of the new Bundesliga season against RB Leipzig. Rupp and Uth were on the scoresheet for Hoffenheim, Kaiser and Sabitzer for the visitors.

Line-up and tactics

Julian Nagelsmann chose a 4-3-3 formation for the first match of the 2016/17 Bundesliga season. In front of Baumann in defence were Philipp Ochs, Niklas Süle, Fabian Schär and Pavel Kaderabek. In a three-man midfield, Kevin Vogt played in the centre with Sebastian Rudy and Lukas Rupp either side on the wings. In attack, Andrej Kramaric and Mark Uth on the outside with Sandro Wagner as centre-forward.

Nagelsmann made just one change at half time, with Pirmin Schwegler coming on for Kevin Vogt in the holding midfield position. He kept to the 4-3-3 formation. In the 65th minute he made a second substitution, as Nadiem Amiri came on to replace Lukas Rupp in midfield. Marco Terrazzino replaced striker Andrej Kramaric in the 79th minute.

Moment of the match

Of course, the pass from Sebastian Rudy to set up our second goal. The ball was perfect, it had everything – accuracy, pace, the lot. You can’t get any better than that.

Match statistics

Lukas Rupp scored in his first ever Bundesliga match for TSG Hoffenheim. Although his goal didn’t ensure victory, it helped to earn us the point. Pirmin Schwegler also celebrated his 50th league appearance for the club.
