Eugen Polanski named TSG captain

TSG head coach Julian Nagelsmann and his coaching staff have named midfielder Eugen Polanski as the new captain for the 2016/17 season.

The 30-year-old central midfielder has been at the club since January 2013 and recently extended his contract until 2018. The former Germany U21s captain has made 107 Bundesliga and DFB cup appearances for “Hoffe”. Indeed on matchday 34 of the last season he celebrated his 100th Bundesliga match for the club.

The former Poland international has played a total of 231 matches in the Bundesliga for TSG, Mainz 05 and Borussia Mönchengladbach, as well as a spell in the Spanish Primera Division for FC Getafe.

Julian Nagelsmann on the decsion: “It was a collective decision within the coaching team. Eugen has a lot of experience, has been in the game a long time and knows TSG very well. Furthermore, he has a very good standing in the team and will represent both the squad and the coaching team well in all areas.”

Polanski on his new appointment: “I am excited for this challenge and pleased to have the faith and backing of the coaching team. It is an honour to serve as captain. I will lead, both on and off he pitch, in order to have a good season with the team.”
