11-1 win in Ketsch – Roberto Firmino & Co. hungry for goals

More beaming sunshine for another TSG warm-up game, but this time the performance was much more commanding. In Hoffenheim's second pre-season friendly, 2,250 spectators watched on as they recorded an 11-1 win against SpVgg Ketsch. It's a second victory in the space of 24 hours following TSG's 3-1 win over SC Geislingen the previous day.

Ketsch, who play in seventh tier of Germany's league system, won the chance to play TSG in a campaign held by the Bundesliga club during last season. After previous friendlies against second-division sides SV Sandhausen and Karlsruhe SC, Ketsch's meeting with Hoffenheim in the ideally located Waldstadion was the highlight of their pre-season.

The kick-off was even delayed by five minutes due to the overwhelming number of people at the ground. When the game did start, TSG wasted no time taking control. In the fourth minute, Andreas Ludwig broke through on the right-hand side and set up Roberto Firmino for the opening goal. It wasn't to be the Brazilian's last goal either, providing Hoffenheim's third and fifth before half time. Ahmed Sassi bagged two goals, the first coming from a Firmino assist and his second following a beautiful shot into the top corner. Vincenzo Grifo also got in on the act in the first half, adding TSG's second goal from the penalty spot in the tenth minute.

Hoffenheim manager Markus Gisdol sent out six new players in the second half. Kai Herdling had already replaced Tobias Strobl in the first period. The new line-up suffered a dampener in the 48th minute though, as the home fans celebrated a consolation goal scored by Atiya Djobo to make it 6-1. TSG then picked themselves up, adding another five goals to the result through yet another Roberto Firmino hat-trick and strikes from Kenan Karaman and Tarik Elyounoussi.

Hoffenheim are back in action again on Wednesday, when they will meet SGV Freiberg at 18.30 CET in a third friendly match. The next open training sessions in Zuzenhausen are on Tuesday at 10.00 CET and 15.00 CET.
