"It's amazing to be involved" – Posch on first international call-up

Stefan Posch has been included in the Austrian senior squad for the upcoming EURO qualifiers by national team coach Franco Foda for the first time. The 21-year-old defender is one of 14 TSG Hoffenheim players who will depart on international duty in the coming weeks.

Posch was ecstatic to receive his first-ever call-up to the Austrian senior squad. "I've always been working towards playing for the Austrian senior team," he said. "Having represented my country in every single youth category, it now makes me very happy to be called up for senior international duty for the first time. Playing would be a dream come true, but it's simply fantastic to be involved."

The Hoffenheim man is in the squad for the upcoming EURO 2020 qualifiers against Poland (20:45 on Thursday 21 March) and Israel (18:00 on Sunday 24 March).

Professional debut against Ludogorets

Posch has been a TSG Hoffenheim player since 2015. The Judenburg native first played at U19 and U23 level before being handed his senior debut in last season's 2-1 Europa League defeat away to Ludogorets. The Austrian has now made 31 competitive appearances in the blue of Hoffenheim.

His delight at being called up by his country was shared by Hoffenheim director of football Alexander Rosen, who said: "Stefan has developed brilliantly at TSG and we're delighted for him that he's made the senior squad for the first time. Stefan is another player who has become an international while with us. That makes us very proud. The call-up is also an acknowledgement of TSG Hoffenheim's work and a sign that we're in the international spotlight."

The Austrian national team coach Franco Foda is very satisfied with the progress made by the TSG man. "He has consistently delivered good performances over a prolonged period of time and I believe that he totally deserves this call-up," said the 52-year-old tactician.

Posch, who this season extended his contract with the Kraichgau outfit until 2022, will be joined in the Austrian senior squad by his team-mate Florian Grillitsch, who has also been called up for the two upcoming EURO qualifiers.
