United together

After TSG's match against Bayern Munich, the management teams of both clubs condemned the incidents in the away section and praised the message sent out by both teams in the memorable closing stages of the game.

TSG managing director Dr. Peter Görlich: ''I would like to credit the excellent work of the officials today. I thought they did an exceptional job of calmly implementing the German Football Association's three-step policy. I felt there was a high level of sensitivity among the crowd for what happened; not only among TSG fans, but also Bayern ones too, with the obvious exception of the small group responsible for the abuse. We have to pay a huge amount of respect to the players for the way they showed their solidarity with Dietmar Hopp, with TSG Hoffenheim and, I would go as far as to say, with German football as a whole. A clear message was sent here today. I think it's something we've needed to see for a long time.''

Alfred Schreuder: ''Everyone's incredibly disappointed about what happened. Dietmar Hopp has done so much for the region and for us as a club. We're sad and we feel very sorry for him. The behaviour of the two teams was very good. It's embarrassing when something like this happens. We're not talking about thousands of fans, just a couple. What Dietmar Hopp has done with his career is special. Nobody deserves that.''

Benjamin Hübner: ''I think the referee reacted in the right way. He stopped the game initially before then taking us into the changing room. I hope we were able to make a statement today. That's what football should do - unite people. I think it was a historic game. We should all build on that."

Karl-Heinz Rummenigge (Bayern Munich chief executive): "I felt deeply ashamed, especially as I stood alongside Dietmar Hopp. We saw the ugly side of football today. The moment has come for the whole of German football to stand together. For too long we've turned a blind eye to what's been going on in the stands. After what happened today, we need to rethink things and we need to fight this with everything we have. We filmed everything that happened and will come down heavily on our fans and bring them to justice. These people have no place in football stadiums."

Hansi Flick (Bayern Munich coach): ''That has nothing to do with football. It can't continue like this. It's time to act. We need to stand together. There can be no excuses. I grew up here and I've known Dietmar Hopp for over 20 years. I'm sorry for him as he's done so much for society. Every single one of these troublemakers probably has someone in their family who has profited from what Dietmar Hopp has done - when it comes to cancer research, for example. We need to stand together and fight these troublemakers, these idiots. It's a dark day for FC Bayern. Both teams, both clubs made a very big statement today.''

Christian Seifert (German Football League chief executive): ''The permanent hostility directed against Dietmar Hopp is completely unacceptable and must be condemned in the strongest terms. It all came to a head in a regrettable manner today. There is absolutely no excuse for this kind of behaviour. All those that were here today - the players, the officials and the management teams at both Bayern Munich and TSG Hoffenheim, as well as many, many fans in the stadium - acted in an exemplary manner, sending a clear message to a few self-appointed rulers of football culture that this sort of thing will no longer be tolerated. There must be no room for any kind of hatred. This has to be the shared objective of everyone across the whole of German football."
