Steffen: "TSG have a lot of attacking momentum"

Swiss winger Renato Steffen, a Wolfsburg player since 2018, will be part of the VfL side that faces TSG Hoffenheim on Saturday (15:30 CET/Live Ticker at achtzehn99.de). In an interview with achtzehn99.de, the 28-year-old spoke about the clash at the PreZero Arena and the attacking nature of both teams.

Renato, following a strong start to the season which at one stage saw VfL Wolfsburg as high as second place, you're currently in 10th position on 28 points. How do you assess your season so far?

"We had a good spell at the beginning of the season where we accumulated a lot of points. We're going through a difficult period on the pitch at the moment, but I'm sure that that will change again."

You're travelling to Hoffenheim on Saturday. There are five points currently separating the teams. What kind of game are you expecting?

"As is always the case when we play Hoffenheim, I'm expecting a very intense match with two teams who want to play attacking football. Hopefully with the better outcome for us in the end."

"Hoffenheim are strong in possession"

TSG lost 1-0 away to SC Freiburg last week despite producing a strong performance. Where do you see Hoffenheim's strengths?

"Hoffenheim are strong in possession, but they have a lot of attacking momentum too if you allow them to play. Our objective will obviously be to stop them and to make better use of our strengths than they do theirs."

From a personal point of view, the second half of the season is going well for you with two goals and an assist. How satisfied are you with your development?

"I'm very satisfied so far. I've been given more playing time in the second half of the season than I had in the first, and I'm trying to pay back that trust with good performances. I obviously hope it continues in the same vein for me personally and that I can help the team to be successful."
