Nordtveit: "We showed character"

Here’s what the players and coaches had to say after the 4-3 defeat at Bayern Munich.

Håvard Nordtveit: "We had several great chances in the second half when we were more patient on the ball and tried to play our game. We showed character in the second half and we put up a great fight for Bayern. We are now a little unhappy that we did not manage to equalise. Of course, taking the lead right at the start was the best thing that could happen to you as a visiting side in Munich. Then Bayern scored three goals following crosses from the flanks, where you could see their quality. We will reflect on the game and then focus on the Bundesliga again. We can be proud to have scored three goals here. We can take that with us into the weekend in Freiburg."

Philipp Pentke: "The bottom line is that a few unfortunate moments led to the goals we conceded. Obviously, the third goal was my fault as well. But we played really well, especially in the second half. We were really brave, didn't give up and made it really exciting again right at the end. After falling 3-1 behind, we stopped playing a little bit, and that wasn't so good from us. But after we scored our second goal, we came back in the game again."

Florian Grillitsch: "Of course we are not happy, in the first half we didn’t really get into the game. We allowed ourselves to be pushed too far back and gave the ball away on too many occasions. In the second half we played very well and pulled the score back to 4-3. We tried to push for the equaliser at 4-4, but unfortunately despite the many chances we carved out, we didn’t manage it. The key to the game was in the first half, when we unfortunately conceded goals too easily. We want to improve on Saturday in Freiburg."

Alfred Schreuder: "Congratulations to Bayern Munich who deservedly won the game. After taking the lead, we lacked courage. We had a couple of sloppy moments in defence and fell behind 3-1 at the break. We did a lot better in the second half. We were more courageous and created several chances. I have to praise my team for the second half performance. We played against one of the best teams in Europe. Now the focus is on the league. I have a lot of confidence in the lads."

Hansi Flick (Bayern Munich coach): "I was very happy with the first half performance. The team immediately responded well to falling behind. We knew Hoffenheim had a good style of play. In the second half the intensity in our game was no longer that high. That is why Hoffenheim was able to play to their own qualities and strengths better. We need to talk about why we started to flounder at the end."
