Gulde: "It'll be an absorbing contest"

Manuel Gulde, 28, spent five years as a TSG Hoffenheim player and won the German B-Youth Championship during a successful stint with the club. Now at Freiburg, the defender will go up against his former employers on Saturday (15:30 CET/Live Ticker at achtzehn99.de). In the lead-up to the game, the centre-back spoke about Freiburg's defeat in Cologne and the match on Saturday.

Manuel, you lost 4-0 at 1. FC Cologne on Sunday. What were the reasons for this heavy loss?

"It was relatively even in the first period. We couldn't find the right solutions on the ball. Our overall performance in the second half was insufficient. Especially the way we went into the challenges. We need to improve on that."

You're up against TSG  a direct rival in the table  on Saturday. How important is the meeting with Hoffenheim?

"Every match is important. We want to secure our top-flight status early on. We have a home game and we want to make amends for our last two defeats against the promoted clubs."

TSG were in DFB Cup action away to Bayern Munich in midweek, while you had a breather. Could that be an advantage for you?

"Obviously, they have enough players in their squad to make up for that. A cup tie in Munich is of course always a highlight. They gave a good account of themselves and will definitely be at full strength on the pitch. It'll be lively."

What kind of game are you expecting on Saturday?

"It'll be an absorbing contest. Hoffenheim are in good form. And we normally play with control and aggression at home. I think it'll be tight. And we hope that it'll end with a more positive outcome for us."
