Rudy: "It feels like we're jinxed"

Here's what the players and coaches said after TSG Hoffenheim lost 4-2 to FC Augsburg.

Kevin Akpoguma: "We're lacking killer-instinct in front of goal at present and we're doing some stupid things at the back – that's how we lost the game. We had four or five moments where Augsburg just played long balls towards our last line and we made life difficult for ourselves because we didn't defend consistently enough and lost the ball too easily. If we want to win games again, we need to improve in these areas."

Robert Skov: "We had enough chances but we were not good enough in the penalty areas eithers ours or theirs. We had enough possession of the ball, applied pressure and had opportunities. But football is about scoring goals and being efficient. We simply weren't good enough in that respect."

Florian Grillitsch: "We did have a lot of possession but not in threatening areas. We often made the wrong decision in the final third. That was the sticking point. We have to to see our attacking moves through better. We need to work on that. We obviously needed to try more after going 2-1 down and then we were hit on the counter. We need to find the right balance there. We're a good footballing side; we need to hang onto that."

Oliver Baumann: "We're not getting the reward for the effort we're putting in. Generally, I don't think it was a bad performance; there was lots of possession until we got into the box, but our final and penultimate passes were often lacking. It feels like an uphill battle at the moment but we need to keep working hard even if it is difficult."

Sebastian Rudy: "The result might suggest otherwise, but we were the better team. With the score at 1-1, Augsburg had hardly anything to offer and just played long balls. We moved the ball about well, played good football and had a range of opportunities. We made four mistakes and conceded four goals. That's what it ultimately comes down to. It feels like we're jinxed. You can't win a game making the kind of mistakes that we did today."

Alfred Schreuder: "We're obviously very disappointed with the result. From my perspective, we had one of our best home performances today. We created an awful lot of goalscoring chances but converted too few of them. We dominated the opposition for lots of spells. But we gave away the goals to Augsburg far too easily. We did very well with the ball until we got into the final third. But Augsburg were simply better in the final third. And that's where the game's decided. The goals we conceded were too easy. We need to analyse the match and continue to work. There's still lots of room for improvement."

Martin Schmidt (FC Augsburg coach): "It was a wild, hectic and intense match. We'd already covered 63 kilometres by half-time. We took the lead with our first counter-attack and then had to ride out a tough spell. Hoffenheim put us under pressure well. We encouraged the lads during the interval. The penalty emboldened us somewhat. You have to attribute the three points to our hard work and our mentality. We obviously did have a little bit of luck at the back plus a good goalkeeper. That allowed us to get points today."
