Matarazzo moves to VfB Stuttgart

Pellegrino Matarazzo (42) is leaving TSG Hoffenheim. The former assistant coach at the Bundesliga club has joined second-tier side VfB Stuttgart, where he will take over as head coach.

"Rino has done a very good job over the past few years, both in our academy and on the coaching staff of our first team. We didn't want to stand in the way of this brilliant opportunity to take over as head coach of such a big club. We are all happy for him," says Alexander Rosen, Director of Football at TSG. The change is also "further demonstration of the excellent work the TSG academy does in educating not just players, but also coaches.'' Footballing experts with the ''Made in Hoffenheim'' label have been in great demand for many years now. A replacement for Matarazzo is not lined up for the time being. "We will deal with this issue internally in the second half of the season," says Rosen.

Matarazzo, born in the USA, was appointed to the TSG first team's coaching staff approximately two years ago. The former Regionalliga player, who, among others, represented Wehen Wiesbaden and SG Wattenscheid 09, worked as a youth coach for 1 FC Nuremberg after his playing career. In 2017, he then took over as head coach of the Hoffenheim U17s.
