Mainz end Hoffenheim's winning run

TSG Hoffenheim's five-match winning streak in the Bundesliga came to an end as they suffered a 5-1 (1-0) home defeat at the hands 1. FSV Mainz 05 on Matchday 14. Coach Alfred Schreuder's charges saw their opponents reduced to 10 men in first-half stoppage time but could not turn the game around after the interval and were ruthlessly hit on the counter-attack in the closing stages.

Personnel & tactics:

Alfred Schreuder made some tactical and personnel changes to the team that beat Cologne before the international break. Stefan Posch, Kevin Vogt and Benjamin Hübner formed a back three in front of shot-stopper Oliver Baumann, while Pavel Kadeřábek and Robert Skov occupied the wide berths and Sebastian Rudy partnered Florian Grillitsch in central midfield. Kevin Akpoguma was a surprise inclusion up front alongside Jürgen Locadia and Ihlas Bebou.

Andrej Kramarić was included in the matchday squad but started on the bench along with Lukas Rupp, who had been a first-team regular in previous weeks. The Croatian forward replaced Akpoguma after the half-time interval. Schreuder made another attack-minded change 10 minutes later when he withdrew Benjamin Hübner for Christoph Baumgartner, before introducing Konstantinos Stafylidis for Stefan Posch on the 77-minute mark. The Greece international slotted in at left-back, with Skov moving over to the right flank.

Moment of the match: Kadeřábek's own goal

Pavel Kadeřábek slipped while attempting to clear a cross in the 52nd minute and headed the ball into his own net – a bitter and highly unfortunate moment that is sure to feature on video reels at the end of the season.

Number of the game: 100

Kevin Vogt became the 15th TSG Hoffenheim player ever to make 100 Bundesliga appearances for the club.
