Mainz end Hoffenheim's winning run

TSG Hoffenheim's five-match winning streak in the Bundesliga came to an end as they suffered a 5-1 (1-0) home defeat at the hands 1. FSV Mainz 05 on Matchday 14. Coach Alfred Schreuder's charges saw their opponents reduced to 10 men in first-half stoppage time but could not turn the game around after the interval and were ruthlessly hit on the counter-attack in the closing stages.

Alfred Schreuder made some tactical and personnel changes to the team that beat Cologne before the international break. Stefan Posch, Kevin Vogt and Benjamin Hübner formed a back three in front of shot-stopper Oliver Baumann, while Pavel Kadeřábek and Robert Skov occupied the wide berths and Sebastian Rudy partnered Florian Grillitsch in central midfield. Kevin Akpoguma was a surprise inclusion up front alongside Jürgen Locadia and Ihlas Bebou.

Andrej Kramarić was included in the matchday squad but started on the bench along with Lukas Rupp, who had been a first-team regular in previous weeks. The Croatian forward replaced Akpoguma after the half-time interval.
