Kilian: "We need to pull together as one"

Luca, SC Paderborn finally managed to get their first victory of the Bundesliga season on Saturday. How big is the sense of relief?

"There's obviously a lot of relief. We naturally hope the corner has been turned now. We want to carry forward the positive feeling from the Düsseldorf match and get points against Hoffenheim too."

You mentioned there that you're up against TSG Hoffenheim on Friday. Where do you think their strengths lie?

"Hoffenheim obviously have a lot of individual quality. I could reel off a lot of strengths. The list is long. They press very well and can put the opposition under pressure. We need to pull together as one. Then we have a chance."

Both teams play offensive football. Are you expecting a spectacular match?

"I certainly wouldn't rule it out. Speaking as a defender, it's obviously better for me if there aren't many goals. But of course, it could happen as both teams are very attack-minded."

Both teams played in the DFB Cup in midweek. Does that play a role when it comes to preparing for the match?

"For us, it was the first English week of the season. After the match, we held a recovery session and then it was straight onto the final training session. But every one of us is raring to play 90 minutes. It's just a case of gritting our teeth and giving everything to get the win."

You joined Paderborn from the Dortmund youth set-up before the start of the season and you're currently a first-team regular in the Bundesliga. Could you have envisaged that?

"I wanted to soak up as much as possible and learn. I would never have thought that it would happen so quickly. I was thrown in at the deep end against FC Bayern and was defending directly against Robert Lewandowski. I'd not been expecting that. But obviously you're delighted as you've been working towards it your whole life."
