Baumgartner: "I want to help with good performances"

Christoph Baumgartner has drawn attention to himself with his performances in the Bundesliga to date. Speaking in an interview with achtzehn99.de, the 20-year-old Austrian discussed Hoffenheim's start to the season, his personal record and the upcoming international fixtures.

You beat FC Bayern Munich 2-1 away from home on Saturday. How do you assess the performance?

"We'd harboured high hopes in the run-up to the match in Munich. But the fact we then managed to come away with a win is a huge success for us. We know that we have quality and that when we produce it, we have a chance everywhere. It's a performance we can build on."

Even though you ultimately did not feature in the Bayern match, you've been getting regular minutes under your belt in the Bundesliga this term. Are you happy with your personal record?

"It's still gone well for me personally to date. I have played several matches for the senior squad and I also believe that my performances were pretty good. For me, it's going to be a case of continuing to put in the hard yards so that I can get more game time under my belt. I want to help the team with good performances. Although I'm young and people might not yet be demanding me to be a player who decides games by himself, it's still important for me to rack up goals and assists. That's my job as an attacking player."

What's on the agenda for you over the international break?

"I flew to join the Austria U21 squad on Sunday. We have two qualifiers  at home to Turkey and away to England. We're on the right track having won both of our opening matches. In addition, I've been placed on the standby list for the senior squad. Austria have two very important Euro qualifiers at home to Israel and away to Slovenia."
