Schreuder: "The lads have reacted superbly"

TSG Hoffenheim head coach Alfred Schreuder spoke at the press conference prior to the Bundesliga match away to VfL Wolfsburg (Monday at 20:30 CET/Live Ticker at achtzehn99.de) about the opposition, the personnel situation and the start to the season.

Alfred Schreuder on…

…the mood following the match against Freiburg: "The Freiburg game was a disappointment for us. But the lads have reacted superbly and have trained very well, showing lots of energy and bite."

…how he personally deals with defeat: "For me, it's the same as a coach as it used to be as a player: I don't sleep so well after a game like that. You think about what wasn't so good and how you can do things better."

…the opposition: "Wolfsburg almost always play with the same formation. They have a lot of good quality in attacking positions and play in a similar style to last season."

…the personnel situation: "Andrej Kramaric is not yet back in team training, but he's doing well and can do more each day. Diadie Samassékou and Steven Zuber are unavailable too. Benjamin Hübner is fully fit, however."

…the start to the season: "It's often difficult at the start of a new season. Last season too, it took a little while for TSG to get going. We need to focus on our work. We have a lot of potential and talent in this team. We will continue to work calmly and that'll eventually pay off for us."

The social media fan question of the week:

Which player – Messi and Ronaldo aside – would you sign if you could pick any player at all?

"I was fortunate enough to be able to work with Frenkie de Jong for a year and a half at Ajax. He's a superb player. With him, you feel as though you have one or two players more on the pitch. It's not something I've experienced with anyone else before. You could see it when the Netherlands played against Germany."

The opposition's form:

Wolfsburg have made a good start to the season, picking up eight points from their first four matches. Coach Oliver Glasner's unbeaten charges sit fourth in the table and beat Oleksandria 3-1 in the Europa League in midweek.

Head-to-head record:

TSG have only ever recorded one victory in Wolfsburg, winning 2-1 at the Volkswagen Arena on 25 February 2012. VfL have won six of their other 10 meetings in the 'Autostadt', while there have been four draws too. Overall, TSG have a negative head-to-head record against the Wolves, with six wins, six draws and 10 defeats.
