An eye-catching new arrival: Joma

TSG have a new kit supplier - and a new kit of course! This season, the club will be equipped for the first time ever by the Spanish sporting goods manufacturer JOMA. Here, club magazine SPIELFELD introduces the brand, exhibits the new kit and gives a behind-the-scenes look at the new partnership.

What do JOMA have to offer TSG and its fans?

The iconic Spanish brand from Toledo has given TSG a new style - there's no way Hoffenheim players won't catch the eye this season in the various stylish new kits they'll take to the field in. The club as a whole will benefit from this new partnership with JOMA: with the internationally renowned brand kitting out TSG teams at all levels - whether it be the first team in the Bundesliga, the women's team or all the way down to youth level. The partnership is set to run until until 30 June 2023.

"JOMA are one of the top ten leading sports manufacturers in the world and are famous for their innovative design and their creative sports collections. We are delighted to be able to present a kit partner whose ambitious goals are perfectly in line with our philosophy as a club," says Dr. Peter Görlich, Managing Director of TSG Hoffenheim. "JOMA are every bit as pioneering and modern a brand as we are."

Hoffenheim are the first Bundesliga club to be equipped by the Spanish brand. JOMA Managing Director Alberto Lopez considers this to be an important step forward for the company: "TSG Hoffenheim, with their constant striving for innovation, have proved to be the most inspiring of partners for us. We have already built up a strong sense of cooperation in a very short period of time. I am convinced that, together, we will become even stronger. Both partners are determined to raise the benchmark when it comes to performance excellence. We are always fully committed to high-quality design and, particularly in our partnership with TSG, technological innovation.''

Who else do JOMA supply kit for and when was the company founded?

In their partnership with TSG, JOMA are able to call on decades of experiences in professional football and elite-level sport. Founded in 1965, the company quickly established itself as a supplier to various teams and associations, going on to boast great popularity in the world of football. In 1988, JOMA signed a deal with the Spaniard Rafael Martín Vázquez, one of Real Madrid's biggest stars at the time. One year later, he was joined by Real legend Emilio Butragueño. JOMA also made a name for themselves by producing top-quality football boots. In 1998, the brand launched the striking "EL COLOR EN EL FÚTBOL" (''The colour in football'') campaign, which arguably revolutionised the global market for football boots. Colourful boots started to appear everywhere. One of the most famous early adherents was superstar striker Fernando Morientes, whose all-red boots certainly caught the eye when combined with the all-white kit of Real Madrid.

In the present day, JOMA provide clothing for several well-known athletes and decorated associations (among them the national handball teams of Spain and Croatia). The brand equipped a total of nine Olympic committees at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro  (including Spain, Portugal and Mexico) and are currently the official kit supplier to several top international football clubs, including Villarreal, Getafe, Swansea City and Sampdoria.

What makes the new TSG kit so special?

The club's players have been sporting their new kit throughout pre-season. As soon as they put on the new jersey for the first time, one thing became clear: the iconic brand from Toledo have delivered a collection which harmonises perfectly with the new chapter of TSG history being written by head coach Alfred Schreuder: new, stylish and bold. The goal is clear - and consistent: Hoffenheim and JOMA want to look good, deliver results on the pitch and raise the benchmark in kit design. All three of the new TSG kits are real eye-catchers: innovation never looked so good! The new kit is in keeping with the tradition of the club's 11-year Bundesliga history: the home kit remains in the now-familiar Hoffenheim blue - true to the motto: ''EVERYTHING NEW, BUT WE REMAIN BLUE!''

However, many details make for an unprecedented jersey design. The collar and sleeves are decorated with white details, but the biggest eye-catcher is the geometric pattern worked into the front - it gradually becomes larger from top to bottom and is once again brought to the fore by white and ice-blue highlights.

The new Joma away jersey, on the other hand, represents change: for the first time ever, TSG will play in a trendy mint colour. The regal and fresh design is complemented by dark-green elements which appear on the collar, Joma logo and the sides of the jersey. The overall design of the third kit is similar to that of the away kit, but with regards to colour, the club's fans can enjoy a classic and elegant variation: the main colour, black, is complemented perfectly in the design by an anthracite grey which appears on the sleeves and shorts. The collection is perfectly rounded off by the goalkeeper's jersey, which is predominantly white with blue details on the shoulders and sleeves.

Who designs and selects the TSG jerseys?

TSG jerseys are of great importance to club, players and fans. That's why so much effort goes into selection and design. Planning begins behind the scenes about a year before the jersey is released to the public. "Internally, ideas, concepts and requests are compiled and then presented to our supplier. Our merchandising department, our kitman Christian Seyfert and our Managing Director Dr. Peter Görlich are all involved," says Antonius Abdel Malik, representative for merchandising and licencing at TSG.

At this stage of the process, the colour, design and style of the kid will come under discussion. Questions that may arise would be: should the kit be unorthodox or simple? Will there be an extravagant shirt? Another important consideration is whether or not the colours are sufficiently different to those of the 17 other clubs in the Bundesliga. A list of all TSG's requests and ideas will then be passed on to JOMA, who, a few weeks later, will give an initial presentation of the new kit. A team from TSG will travel to JOMA's headquarters in Spain to cast an eye over the proposed new kits, suggest adjustments and coordinate with the designers on site.

After going through several draft versions, the jersey collection is completed in time for the start of the new season in August. "We incorporate various ideas: What are the trends, both in Germany and beyond? Which colours and designs have been popular with our fans in recent years? What fits our image?" Each TSG kit is tailored specifically to the club, it's never just taken off-the-peg. The effort has paid off - this year's selection has been extremely well received by both players and fans alike. As is the case every year, the home jersey has proved to be the bestseller, while the other two models are currently neck-and-neck.

"The feedback from the players has also been excellent. They really like the quality and the style. The sleeveless training shirt is a first for the club and they've loved wearing it so far, especially in the hot summer temperatures. The mint green away jersey has also been a hit, despite the fact that we've never had anything like it before at the club," says Abdel Malik. Another highlight are the numbers on the back of the jerseys: they've been provided by a regional supplier that the club collaborate with, thus rendering the design even more unique.

Where, in what sizes and at what prices are the jerseys available?

The range of products on offer is extensive: jerseys start from children's size 104 and go all the way up to 5XL. The home jersey is also available in a special women's fit. The shirt is on sale for €79.95 - lower than the Bundesliga average price - while junior sizes are on sale for €59.95. The new collection is available for purchase in the recently-renovated FanShop in the PreZero Arena as well as the TSG OnlineShop.
