Nagelsmann: "It'll be emotional"

Julian Nagelsmann spoke at the press conference prior to the Bundesliga match against Werder Bremen (Saturday at 15:30 CET/Live Ticker at achtzehn99.de) about his state of mind ahead of his last home game as TSG boss, the race for Europe and the personnel situation.

Julian Nagelsmann on…

…the race for Europe in the run-in: "We could've put ourselves in a better position. We all know that. But getting annoyed about it won't get us anywhere. There's not a big gap. There are still six points up for grabs. We won't go into the two games in a negative frame of mind, because we played very well against Gladbach. If we can replicate that display in the final two games, I think we'll win."

…Werder Bremen: "They've developed very well under Florian Kohfeldt. They're very versatile and consistently switch their formation in matches. They're having more success than they've had in a long time and doing very well. Their style is very offensive and brave. Bremen are very good to watch."

…Kerem Demirbay's transfer: "It's a very normal path for the Bundesliga. His development at TSG has been incredible. We can all pat each other on the back when you see the price that Hoffenheim paid for him at the start and what Leverkusen are paying now. I wish him all the very best."

…the personnel situation: "Benjamin Hübner and Dennis Geiger didn't train this week and will not be fit in time to face Bremen. Dennis will not play again this season, but we're hoping Benni might be okay to face Mainz. Joelinton has made a good impression in training. He's another option for the squad. Robin Hack will not be available. Stefan Posch will miss out due to suspension."

…his last home game as TSG head coach: "I'm not currently feeling too overwhelmed by emotion. We still have some content to work on. It'll certainly be emotional and – depending on the outcome – I might even do a lap of honour. I'm an emotional guy, but first of all I want to finish my job as a coach."

The social media fan question of the week:

Werder Bremen on Twitter: How does the starting XI look for Saturday?

"Good. You better get yourselves prepared."

The opposition's form:

Werder Bremen have long since been in the race for Europe but have failed to win each of their last four competitive matches and now find themselves with only an outside chance of a European berth. However, the Green & Whites produced a great comeback last week: coach Florian Kohfeldt's charges were trailing Borussia Dortmund by two goals but fought back to draw 2-2.

Head-to-head record:

TSG Hoffenheim do not have a particularly enviable Bundesliga record against Bremen. The Kraichgau club have only won three of their 21 previous meetings, drawing nine and losing nine. That said, there has not been a single league defeat against Bremen during Julian Nagelsmann's tenure.
