Hahn: "TSG are a top team"

Andre Hahn and FC Augsburg are fighting for their Bundesliga lives. In an interview with achtzehn99.de, the 28-year-old midfielder spoke about the relegation battle, Sunday's meeting with TSG Hoffenheim and on-loan shot-stopper Gregor Kobel.

André, you're battling relegation while TSG are fighting for a place in European competition. How important will Sunday's meeting be for both teams?

"Obviously every point counts, especially in a relegation battle. We recently missed a major chance against a direct rival in Nuremberg. We now want to make up for that and get a result at home against Hoffenheim to put as much distance between ourselves and the teams below us. But we of course know how important the game is for Hoffenheim, as they're only one point away from a Europa League spot."

You have a small gap between yourselves and the relegation zone with seven games to go. How do you assess your current situation?

"We're in a good position for the remaining seven matches. Our fate is in our own hands and we need to ensure that we pick up the points. Then we won't have to be relying on results elsewhere."

TSG won the reverse fixture 2-1 thanks to a late goal from Reiss Nelson. Are you expecting a similarly tight game and what do you think could make the difference on Sunday?

"We have recently showed against Dortmund and twice against Leipzig that we can compete with the top teams in the Bundesliga. Hoffenheim are in that bracket too. Nonetheless, we'll have to give everything on Sunday if we are to keep the three points in Augsburg and produce a good performance for our fans. What ultimately makes the difference and who comes on top in the game remains to be seen."

Since the winter break, Hoffenheim loanee Gregor Kobel has been the FCA goalkeeper. How do you rate Gregor's performances to date?

"Gregor is a very young player but he's already delivering some incredible performances. He's already saved us points on several occasions and he'll reach great heights in the Bundesliga. I would be delighted to see his stay at FC Augsburg extended for a while longer."
