Mutzel to depart for Hamburg

Michael Mutzel will leave Bundesliga club TSG Hoffenheim on 1 April this year and become the next sporting director for the current 2. Bundesliga league leaders Hamburger SV. Mutzel, who is 39 years old, has been in charge of our scouting department since 2016.

It is actually the second time the former player – who made 92 top-flight and 92 second-flight appearances for Eintracht Frankfurt, VfB Stuttgart and Karlsruher SC – has left a role at TSG. He previously served as the sporting director of the youth academy, before leaving to become director of football at second-tier side SpVgg Greuther Fürth. He returned to Hoffenheim at the beginning of 2016.

"Michael has done some outstanding work here in the last three years and will leave behind a well-structured and functioning department. But beyond my appreciation for his professional performance, I'd like to thank him for being a person with whom it has been a joy to work," said director of football Alexander Rosen. "It's a shame that we'll no longer have a guy like Michael Mutzel in the team. On the other hand, I'm delighted for him that he'll now have the opportunity in Hamburg to play a leading role and to take what he considers to be another step forward in his professional development."

New Team Manager at TSG

As part of its staff restructuring ahead of the new season, TSG Hoffenheim can announce that Maximilian Vollmar will take up the position of Team Manager at the Bundesliga outfit. The 33-year-old Bonn native will join the club from 1. FC Cologne, where he has held the same role for the last eight years.

Max Vollmar will succeed Timmo Hardung, 29, who − as previously reported − will be moving to domestic rivals RB Leipzig at the end of the current campaign along with head coach Julian Nagelsmann and video analyst Benjamin Glück.

Baumgartner out injured with broken hand

The diagnosis isn't good for Christoph Baumgartner: the young TSG player suffered a fracture in his left hand when playing for the U23s in last Sunday's friendly match against Waldhof Mannheim (a 3-1 loss for TSG). The 19-year-old midfielder will have to undergo an operation in Heidelberg on Wednesday and will therefore be out injured for the time being. The Austrian U21 national player, who since the winter break has been training with head coach Julian Nagelsmann's first team, made his first-ever appearance in a Bundesliga matchday squad for TSG during Saturday's 3-0 home win over Hannover 96.

Demirbay, Schulz and Vogt named in ''kicker'' Team of the Round

A nice way to start the week: Kerem Demirbay, Nico Schulz and Kevin Vogt have been rewarded for their excellent performances in the outstanding 3-0 win against Hannover 96 with a place in ''kicker'' magazine's weekly Team of the Round. Meanwhile, a total of four Hoffenheim players made it into ''Bild'' newspaper's select XI: Joelinton and Ishak Belfodil were both named alongside Nico Schulz and Kerem Demirbay. Julian Nagelsmann also received praise from ''Bild'': the 31-year-old was named Coach of the Week.
