Nagelsmann: "We want revenge"

Julian Nagelsmann spoke at the press conference prior to the Matchday 19 home game against Fortuna Düsseldorf (Saturday at 15:30 CET, Live Ticker at achtzehn99.de) about the defeat in the reverse fixture, the opposition and the personnel situation.

Julian Nagelsmann on…

…the reverse fixture: "We want revenge. It's a home game that we want to win so that we can achieve our objectives. We made two mistakes too many in the reverse fixture. Düsseldorf didn't have many shots. We conceded a goal from the first shot and that left us chasing the game. After we equalised, they then re-established their lead from the penalty spot with their second shot."

…Fortuna Düsseldorf: "Düsseldorf are a team that want to compete and go forward. They have a lot of good footballers. I like that. They sometimes also leave spaces when they lose the ball going forward. We didn't take advantage of that in the reverse fixture. Hopefully that'll be different on Saturday."

…the personnel situation: "Kasim Adams still has thigh problems and is not fully fit. We'll need to wait and see how it is. Meanwhile, Andrej Kramaric has a build-up of fluid in his thigh. It depends on his movement patterns. He'll be tested again today. If he somehow comes through it, he'll play. Benjamin Hübner is experiencing muscular problems in his thigh. I'm operating under the assumption that he won't play on Saturday. Havard Hordtveit has inflammation around his shin bone and will miss out. Reiss Nelson is back in contention and is making a good impression."

The social media fan question of the week:

Do you think Kerem Demirbay is an option for Joachim Löw in the short or medium term?

"That's not my decision. His development with us has been excellent. Last season he went through a phase during which he wasn't at 100 percent. He played very well against Freiburg. He's an outstanding footballer and he's definitely earned it. But he needs to perform better than the players who are currently in the squad. In the end Joachim Löw will decide which players he thinks are the best."

The opposition's form:

Fortuna's four-match winning streak came to an end last weekend as they were beaten 4-0 by RB Leipzig. They currently sit in 14th place with 21 points after 19 rounds of matches.

Head-to-head record:

There have only previously been three meetings between the teams. The reverse fixture was the first time TSG have lost a competitive match to Fortuna Düsseldorf (2-1), having previously drawn 1-1 and won 3-0 against them in the 2012/13 campaign.
