Stefan Posch extends contract until 2022

Bundesliga club TSG Hoffenheim have prematurely extended Stefan Posch's contract by a further two years. The Austria U21 international's new deal runs until 30 June 2022.

"Stefan is a quick and tough-tackling defender who is calm, composed and reliable with the ball at his feet," said Alexander Rosen of the 21-year-old, who left his native Austria to join the TSG Hoffenheim academy in 2015 and signed his first professional contract with the Kraichgau club two years later in the summer of 2017. The sporting director believes Posch's promotion from the youth ranks to the senior squad via the U23s to be "a clear example of how our young players can mature step-by-step and in a relaxed setting". Additionally, he sees it as "a clear signal that the doors will always be open for talented youngsters in our academy, even if it has becoming slightly more difficult to establish oneself in the Bundesliga team due to the strong development within the senior squad".

"TSG offers me the optimal conditions to continue my development at the highest level. Thanks to my first appearances with the senior team and the club's ongoing work with young players, I've also been able to draw increased attention to myself in my homeland," said Stefan Posch, whose medium-term aim is to make his full international debut for Austria. The 1.88m-tall man from Styria has represented his country at all youth levels starting from the U16s and has previously made seven appearances for the Austria U21s. A fortnight ago, he scored the decisive goal as the Austrian youngsters beat their Greek counterparts 1-0 in the play-offs to book their place at the European U21 Championship. Posch is already on the radar of national team coach Franco Foda, who recently included the player on his standby list ahead of the November Nations League fixtures.

Posch made his senior debut for TSG Hoffenheim at the end of September 2017 in a 2-1 Europa League defeat to Ludogorets. The youngster now has played 13 times in the Bundesliga, twice in the Champions League, four times in the Europa League and once in the DFB Cup.
