Selke: "It was a cool time"

Davie Selke played in the TSG youth set-up between 2009 and 2013. He joined Hertha BSC in the summer of 2017. In an interview with achtzehn99.de, he speaks about his past at TSG, Saturday's match and his friendship with Nadiem Amiri.

Davie, you used to play in the youth set-up at Hoffenheim. What's your connection to TSG?

''I have a very positive connection to the club. It was a top place to be a young player, and I got the chance to work with so many great people there, such as Alexander Rosen for example. I was a real hot-head back then, but my coaches in Hoffenheim really supported me and helped me become more level headed.''

During your time in the TSG youth set-up you played with Nadiem Amiri, amongst others. Have you stayed in touch with him or with other people at TSG?

''Nadiem and I speak regularly. I know him from all the way back in the talent development programme. It's great to see how well he's developed. We shared a room at the U21 Euros in Poland, where we were crowned European champions. That was a cool time, he really is such a great guy.''

You've just come off a run of five Bundesliga matches without a win. What do you make of your position in the table?

''Unfortunately you always go through those phases in a season where not everything goes according to plan. We need a win soon so that we can continue to build on the excellent start we made.''

"We're going to do all we can to make sure the points stay in Berlin"

What are TSG's strengths?

''They have a really good coach who gives his team an incredible tactical flexibility going into each match. We're aware of that, and we're going to do all we can to make sure the points stay here in Berlin with us.''

What will it come down to on Saturday?

''The most important thing will be whether or not we're able to play to our strengths for the full 90 minutes. If we do that, then we can beat anyone on our day. We've already proved that this season.''

You had a serious injury at the start of the season, but now you're fit again and just managed to get your first goal of the season. How do you feel at the moment?

''I'm going strong again, in the past few games I was able to win a penalty and score a goal. I want to pick up where I left off and help lead the team to success.''
