Nico Schulz receives international call-up

Both Nico Schulz and TSG Hoffenheim were honoured to discover on Wednesday that the left full-back has received a call-up to the national team by Germany coach Joachim Löw for the first time.

The 25-year-old will be part of the set-up for the upcoming international fixtures, the first a Nations League clash with world champions France in Munich (20:45 CET on 6 September) and the second a friendly against Peru at the WIRSOL Rhein-Neckar Arena (20:45 CET on 9 September). That means a home game for Schulz, who could become the ninth Hoffenheim player to feature for the German national team.

Home game in Sinsheim

"I'm incredibly happy about this call-up and I'm really looking forward to this opportunity," said the dynamic full-back, who had been regarded as a strong contender for the Germany squad even before the World Cup in Russia. "I've worked very hard for this and I'm also grateful to TSG Hoffenheim, who have given me the opportunity to develop as I have." In an interview with our club magazine SPIELFELD back in May, the Berlin native had said: "If I stay fit then anything can happen in time. I know what I'm capable of and I know the players I'm competing with for my position – and, as I see it at the moment, I can play at that level too." Now the TSG first-teamer has been handed the chance he deserves.

Alexander Rosen delighted

His delight is shared by Alexander Rosen: "We're very happy for and with Nico Schulz that his at times outstanding performances this year have been rewarded with a call-up," said the TSG Sporting Director. "After Kerem Demirbay and Sandro Wagner, this means there is another player on the verge of making his senior debut for Germany who has reached this stage of development in a short space of time at TSG. Another player in this category is Kevin Vogt, who I believe is also very close to getting into the national team based on his performances and his statistics."
