Liverpool defeat puts TSG into Europa League

TSG have lost the second leg of their Champions League playoff against Liverpool 4-2. Mark Uth and Sandro Wagner scored the goals for TSG. For Liverpool, it was Emre Can who scored twice alongside Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino. TSG’s European journey will continue in the Europa League. The group stage draw will take place on Friday in Monaco.

Line up and formation:

Julian Nagelsmann made two changes to his starting XI from the one who faced Liverpool last Tuesday. Havard Nordtveit replaced Ermin Bicakcic and Dennis Geiger started after making his Bundesliga debut last Saturday. Tactically speaking, TSG line up in a 3-5-2 with the ball which became a 5-3-2 when possession was lost. The back three consisted of Vogt, Hübner and Nordtveit with Zuber and Kaderabek as wingbacks. Geiger played a holding midfield role with Kramaric and Demirbay further forward. Upfront was Gnabry and Wagner.

Julian Nagelsmann decided to make changes when 3-0 in the 24th minute. Nordtveit was replaced by Mark Uth and changed systems to a 4-4-2. In the 56th minute, there was a second substitution as Adam Szalai replaced Gnabry. In the 65th minute, TSG made their third change as Jeremy Toljan entered the field in place of Kaderabek.

 

The moment of the match:

It’s the 86th minute at Anfield. Despite being 4-2 down, the travelling TSG faithful sing “Europa League!” - Unbelievable support for the lads today once again.

The number of the game: 1

It may be an end to the Champions League dream for TSG but it will still be their first time in the Europa League which is a superb achievement for Julian Nagelsmann and his team.
