Hübner extends contract until 2021

Just one week before the first competitive match of the new season in the DFB Pokal against third division side Rot-Weiß Erfurt (Saturday 18:30 CEST), TSG Hoffenheim have extended the contract of Benjamin Hübner until the summer of 2021.

"Benni was a key performer in the best season in our club's history and was pivotal to our success last year," said TSG professional football director Alexander Rosen about the 28-year-old defender. Hübner joined Hoffenheim from FC Ingolstadt last summer. "After a short period of acclimatising, he established himself in the starting eleven and became a strong part of our team," said Rosen.

"Benni has had an unbelievable development with us. He's a superb defender, a good header of the ball and strong in the challenge and, being left-footed, is an important part of our defence," said Julian Nagelsmann on the 1.93m tall defender and is "very pleased with the extension."

"I feel very comfortable here. Joining Hoffenheim was, for me, the best decision. The daily work with the coach and his backroom staff, the team spirit, the trust that TSG has placed in me and, not least, the support of the fans, were all decisive factors in deciding to extend my contract here, said Hübner, who played 25 Bundesliga matches last term, scoring two goals. He's scored in his only DFB Pokal appearance last season. After a "fantastic season", he's now looking forward "with immense excitement to the new challenges which await us both domestically and internationally".
