Sandro Wagner extends contract with TSG

TSG Hoffenheim have extended striker Sandro Wagner’s contract in advance. His new deal runs until June 30th 2020. Wagner, who was a part of the Germany side that won the Confederations Cup in Russia at the beginning of July, joined TSG from SV Darmstadt 98 prior to the 2016/17 season.

The 1.94 metre tall forward scored 11 goals in 31 Bundesliga games in his first season with the club, and the FC Bayern München youth product bagged a further four assists in the league. “Sandro is a strong player who, through his performances and efforts, played a decisive role in our great season,” said Alexander Rosen, Director of Football at TSG. He commended the “strong signal that the early contract extension shows,” as well as the fact that Sandro Wagner’s performances at TSG propelled him to a place in Germany call-up (3 appearances, 3 goals).

Manager Julian Nagelsmann also had high praise for the forward, saying: “Sandro is a great finisher who is an imposing presence on the pitch and has added new elements to his game over the course of last season.” “In addition, he’s a good character to have on the team. He keeps his opponents busy and displays a lot of emotion on the pitch. He’s an important personality in the locker-room.”

The Germany striker is “pleased to be able to continue working with TSG.” He said: “I want to help the club continue to succeed in the future as well.” Hoffenheim “have a challenge ahead of them in the form of their first appearance in a European competition, and it’s one that we’re really looking forward to and are ambitious for. I can’t wait to rejoin the team after my holiday is over and concentrate on working hard in preseason,” said Sandro Wagner.
