Top facts: Clash with our favourite opponents

It will be a reunion with Markus Gisdol when TSG take on Hamburger SV on matchday 28 of the Bundesliga. “Hoffe” have fared the better side in recent years against HSV. Check out all the facts and figures you need to know ahead of this fixture at the Volksparkstadion on Saturday.

DID YOU KNOW, THAT…

… TSG always enjoy facing HSV?

“Hoffe” have lost just one of their last seven Bundesliga meetings against Hamburg, coming out on top on four of those occasions. The points have been shared twice in that period. TSG have beaten HSV more times than any other current Bundesliga opposition (seven times, the same as against Eintracht Frankfurt). TSG only have more victories against 2. Bundesliga side Hannover 96. Hoffenheim have also been particularly strong going forward against HSV, only hitting the back of the net on more occasions in the top flight against Hannover (32 goals) than Hamburg (31 goals).

… “Hoffe” have never been doing this well?

Having 51 points after 27 matchdays is a club record alone. TSG had 44 points at this stage of the 2008/09 season, their second best ever total. That year, the team finished the season with 55 points, a total that Julian Naglsmann’s side could take one step closer to with victory on Saturday.

… Julian Nagelsmann’s team are closing in on another club record?

TSG are unbeaten in three away games and have picked up a total of 19 points away from home. The club record dates back to that successful season back in 2008/09 on 23.

… Hamburg have been pretty decent at home this season?

HSV have gone eight games at home without defeat. Moreover they have registered six wins in that time. The Hanseaten have not been on a run as solid as that since between May 2008 and February 2009, where they went eleven matches undefeated and won an incredible ten of them.

… TSG are the masters when it comes to shots from distance?

Andrej Kramaric scored a brilliant goal from outside the area to secure the victory over Bayern Munich on Tuesday night. But scoring goals from outside the box has been a regular occurrence for TSG this season. In fact, it has happened on eleven occasions, more than any other club.

… TSG will shortly have more reason to celebrate?

TSG played their 150th Bundesliga game at home against Bayern on Tuesday and crowned that with their 100th win in the German top-flight. The match in Hamburg will represent the club’s 300th game in the Bundesliga. TSG’s record in Germany’s top division so far boasts 100 wins, 88 draws and 111 defeats.

… the league’s second best defence meets the league’s second worst?

TSG have conceded just 26 goals this season. Only Bayern have conceded fewer. It is a different story for Hamburg, who have conceded 50 goals in this campaign. Only bottom-club Darmstadt 98 have let in more (53).
