Niklas Süle: “I’m just happy”

What the players and managers had to say after the 3-1 victory against Hertha BSC.

Julian Nagelsmann: Niklas works on his long-range shooting quite a bit. He himself says that he has a 1 in 100 chance of scoring, and this week the odds were better because he had a chance from one free-kick, but we didn’t have any from a real dangerous position. Sandro was unlucky beforehand, as was Kerem. Overall, I’m very happy. We played a dominant game away from home. Before the break there were chances that we should have capitalised on, but didn’t. Ultimately, it’s a deserved win for the team and the result is fair. We were patient when we had the numbers advantage and played well right up until the final whistle, allowing no counters, and that’s what I like to see.

Pal Dardai: We could have lead 2-0 before the break, but the penalty meant that was 1-1 at the half. After the second yellow that saw Mittelstädt dismissed from the game, it was understandably very hard for us. The boys gave their all, and we have to accept the loss. With only ten of us, we were helped by the post and then by God. Hoffenheim were the better team after the sending-off, and so they deserve to win. The deciding moment for me was the dismissal. The Champions League is too much for us – we will fight for sixth place.

Niklas Süle: I didn’t have a great day today. As a result, I wanted to retaliate and do something special, and luckily I succeeded in doing so. It’s coincidence that it’s worked out for me twice now against Hertha. I’m happy to be able to contribute to the win over Hertha, as it was an important game for us. I’m just happy that we’ve won and to have scored in my 100th game.
Sandro Wagner: I’m very happy. We played well for the whole 90 minutes and were the better team from the first minute to the last. The finger was a bit crooked, but thankfully it’s now in place again. It didn’t hurt in the game, as I was full of adrenaline. The doc did well. Until then, I’d only seen something like that in action films.

Andrej Kramaric: It was an important victory for us today. I hope that it continues. We’ll do everything to make sure it does. Hertha are exceptionally strong at home, and therefore I’m pleased with the performance and the two goals. We can celebrate a little tonight, but then we have to return to full-focus again. On Tuesday we’re playing Bayern München, who are one of the best teams in the world, but we know how good we really are. It’ll be an interesting game in the closing stages of the league.
