"TSG gave me a boost" - Demirbay extends until 2021

TSG Hoffenheim have extended Kerem Demirbay's contract by two more years, keeping him at the club until June 2021. The 23-year-old midfielder joined TSG at the start of the season from fellow Bundesliga side Hamburger SV.

After just a few months in the Bundesliga, Demirbay has found himself under the spotlight. He had already raised eyebrows during loan spells with 1. FC Kaiserslautern and Fortuna Düsseldorf in the second division, but now is impressing in the top flight. “It was always a dream, but I never could have imagined that I would settle into top-flight football this quickly,” admits Demirbay. “I always believed in myself, of course. But the whole environment at TSG and the faith that the club has put in me from the very start has obviously given me a real boost.” He has three goals and nine assists to his name in 15 Bundesliga appearances for the club so far.

Alexander Rosen, director of football at TSG 1899 Hoffenheim, is however convinced that "despite his rapid development, Kerem still hasn’t reached his full potential." Demirbay’s extension is "a clear signal and another step towards building a stable and exciting squad, filled with ambitious players, for the next few seasons." Just a few weeks ago, Oliver Baumann and Steven Zuber also signed long-term deals.
