Bremen match reaction

We spoke to the managers and players after the 1-1 draw against Werder Bremen to get their thoughts on the game.

Julian Nagelsmann: I’m not very pleased with the result because we didn’t play well today. Our first half performance was our worst of this season. We made way too many mistakes. Despite this, we still managed to take the lead, but it was a lucky goal. Niklas Süle missed a good opportunity to make it 2-0 in the first half and that would have made the game ours. We played well at the beginning of the second half and could have scored another goal, but we didn’t make the most of the chances we created on the counter. Then we conceded a goal late on.

Alexander Nouri: It was a very intense game. We started well and had the game under our control at first. We didn’t deal with TSG on the counter very well and let them create too many chances. We conceded from a set-piece because we were too slow to the second ball. We didn’t defend well enough there. We looked dangerous going forward in the second half. In the end, we deserved to get a point out of the game. I wish Julian and his team luck for the rest of the season.

Mark Uth: We are really disappointed today. We have to improve on the counter-attack. Nagelsmann has already spoken to us about that in the dressing room at half-time. We threw away two points today, however now we have time to improve on where we went wrong over the winter break. I didn’t play well today and I made mistakes. We all have to take a good look at our performances.

Sandro Wagner: It’s a frustrating result. We wanted to win and we should have today considering the amount of chances we had. We played well in the second half but we couldn’t hold on to win the three points. We sat too deep towards the end of the game. It’s dampened our mood a little ahead of the winter break. We have to remember though that we have been doing well. We are still unbeaten and are fifth in the league.

Oliver Baumann: The result today is far from satisfactory. We had enough chances to make it 2-0. In the end, we didn’t defend well enough and we let Bremen score a late equaliser. I wasn’t pleased with our performance today, but it feels good to still be unbeaten in the Bundesliga this season.

Kerem Demirbay: I am disappointed. We threw two points away too easily today. It’s not a good way to start the holidays. We dominated the game for 90 minutes, but we should have made sure we scored a second goal to secure the three points. We didn’t make the most of our chances on the counter-attack.
