Schär, Szalai and Ochs all in goalscoring form

International fixtures were back on the agenda on Monday evening, with the TSG players enjoying great success. Fabian Schär, Adam Szalai and Philipp Ochs all found the net in their international fixtures.

Monday, 10th October

Fabian Schär - Switzerland

Switzerland’s start to their World Cup qualifying campaign could not have gone any better. The Swiss recorded their third win in their third qualifier, with a 2-1 win over Andorra. TSG centre-back Fabian Schär played a key role in the victory, putting his side in the lead from the penalty spot, in the 19th minute. Bayer Leverkusen’s Admir Mehmedi increased Switzerland’s lead in the 77th minute, before Andorra scored a consolation effort in injury time.

Adam Szalai - Hungary

The Hoffenheim striker was also on target for his country, as Hungary beat Latvia 2-0 away from home. Szalai was in the starting line-up from the start, netting Hungary’s second of the game in the 77th minute.

Ermin Bicakcic – Bosnia and Herzegovina

Bosnia ran out 2-0 winners in their home qualifier against Cyprus, with Edin Dzeko striking both times for the hosts. Ermin Bicakcic was an unused substitute. The Bosnians currently sit in third place in Group H, with two wins from three games. Belgium and Greece lead the group with both sides having recorded three wins from three so far.

Philipp Ochs - Germany U20s

The Germany U20 team played their third and final game of the Four Nations Tournament against Holland. Guido Streichsbier’s side began the tournament with a win over the USA, but then lost their next game to England. The Germany team then lost a penalty shoot-out against Holland, in their final game of the tournament last night. The game finished 2-2 after normal time. Philipp Ochs scored the equaliser for Germany, bringing the scores level at 1-1. It was his third goal of the tournament, with the TSG youngster looking in great form throughout. The defeat meant that Germany finished the mini-tournament in third place.

Tuesday, 11th October

Sebastian Rudy – Germany

TSG player Sebastian Rudy didn’t feature in Germany’s 2-0 win in Hannover against Northern Ireland. The goals for Joachim Löw’s side were scored by Julian Draxler and Sami Khedira, this win means the DFB Team have taken a maximum nine points from their first three World Cup qualifiers.

Pavel Kaderabek – the Czech Republic

Without TSG player Pavel Kaderabek in the side, the Czech Republic drew 0-0 with Azerbaijan on Tuesday evening. With just two points from three games, the Czechs currently lie in second to last place in Group C.

Niklas Süle / Nadiem Amiri / Jeremy Toljan – Germany U21s

The Germany U21s were already qualified for next summer’s Euros before their game against Austria on Tuesday night had even kicked off. However, against their neighbours, the game was about securing a perfect qualification campaign and trying to get the tenth win from as many games. Coach Stefan Kuntz used the clash as an opportunity to test a few new faces, meaning TSG centre-back Niklas Süle was left out of the 4-1 win. However, Nadiem Amiri and Jeremy Toljan both played the full 90 minutes. The goals in this encounter came from Maximilian Arnold, Levin Öztunali, Davie Selke und Janik Haberer. The groups for next summer’s tournament in Poland will be drawn on the first of December in Kraków.

Dennis Geiger – Germany U19s

The Germany U19s won the first of two qualification rounds for the European Championship and in the third game, Frank Kramer’s team triumphed 4-0 against Ireland. Dennis Geiger featured in this one and played 89 minutes, being subbed off for Mats Köhlert late on. Germany also came out on top in their first two games, first beating Gibraltar 5-0 and then Albania 3-2.

Wednesday, 12th October

Eduardo Vargas – Chile

The TSG striker’s native Chile won the all important World Cup qualifier against Peru 2-1, early on Wednesday morning. Vargas was substituted off in the 90th minute to run the clock down. Bayern star Arturo Vidal scored both of the goals for the reigning Copa América champions, with the winner coming in the 86th minute. Chile now have 14 points from ten games and are back in touch with the qualification places which will allow them to qualify for Russia 2018.
